To help avoid spiking blood sugar levels in a diabetic condition, carefully monitor your carbohydrate intake. Although carbohydrates play an important role in your body, they can also cause an increase in blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is a good idea to identify which foods are rich in carbohydrates and to watch your daily consumption of those foods.
To better control your diabetes, add more exercise into your daily routine. Exercise can help to control blood sugar levels, which is essential to any diabetes maintenance plan. It also promotes a healthy weight, which can make managing diabetes easier to do. Strive for at least twenty minutes of moderate exercise three or four times a week.

249 is too high. They want it to be 200 or less. I would go to the doctor and ask to let you try Zetia or Vytorin.
there is a lot you can eat!! grilled fish is great – or grilled chicken – and it does not have to be bland – sprinkle it with chili powder or garlic powder you can also get mccormicks grill mates – but get the salt free!!!!! a george forman grill is great for this and they can be picked up cheap at big lots – you can put veggies on the grill too – like green squash (zuccini) yellow squash & baby carrots – cut then to about 1 inch thick and sprinkle them with the same season as the meat and stick them in the forman grill!!!
if you are going to use a fryingpan instead of using oil – use water!!!
steamed veggies – or veggie stir fry – dice up onion and several different colored peppers put a frying pan on get it very hot – put a little water int he pan they add the veggies and keep stirring them – you can add sliced grilled chicken too – then serve it over lettuce – or wrap it in a low cholesterol wrap!!!
buy balance butter – it has stuff in it to help lower cholesterol -
and remind mom that if the other kids keep eating it when they are 15 they will need special diet too!!!
Total & LDL are high–Hdl & triglycerides are o.k. I would call him to this & request some advice. If he refuses, see another Dr. & be retested.

if u wanna go to gym jus go and ignore dem cuz wen u lose weight there gonna regret all that crap they said
yes you are very healthy
249 is borderline high. A normal ldl( bad cholesterol) is below 129 a normal hdl (good cholesterol) is > 60, triglycerides should be under 150
Search on line there are many quick fix – vitamins and foods that be amazed .. read about VIRGIN olive oil…it binds to cholesterol … simple and amazing ..studies show people who consume it daily, in European countries Italy? Rarely have high cholesterol.. but it has to be Virgin and it has to have the elements that "Sting the throat" slightly.. I recall this detail from a video…
You are not a vegetarian if you eat fish also soy have been linked to cancer
kinda high
Anything under 200 is acceptable. Yours is high.
Adopt DASH diet (The Mediterranean diet). Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
I recommend the Food Network. too. They have a couple of good shows on TV, "Low Cal & Lovin It", and "Calorie Commando". The web site is good, also.
Me has alot of good suggestions.
Is there a Ask-A-Nurse service with your insurance or in your network? If not, try calling your nurse. They are very knowledgeable and often come across as more caring because they have more time to discuss things. Just say, you received the results of your blood work for cholesterol and you want to know what the "normal" levels are. If you determine that higher, then simply ask what she recommend you do to manage it. It usually is as easy as eating more whole grains, like Cheerios, or losing 5 – 10 pounds. Also, if you still feel uneasy about your levels after losing some pounds (or if you determine you have no extra pounds to shed), go in for a re-test and see if still high.
your cholesterol is good thats your whole total is 249 mine was high my triglycerides were 319 and my hdl was 34 that was low and my ldl was 174 witch was good so if your hdl is 64 that good everything on your cholesterol level all look normal so they r normal…
first off, cholesterol is irrelevant. Pharmacies do not have to sell you any food to make you sicker, the drugs do that. One drug leads to two, then three, etc. As a pharmacist ,I should have known better, but I was up to 11 prescription medications, at age 50. After stopping 10 of 11 drugs, I now eat a whole foods, carb restricted diet and have not seen my doctor in 3 years. I feel great except for the blinding, obsessive anger that I feel toward the drug companies. Health care reform should forget the insurance companies and focus on the drug companies. The insurance industry is all about cost cutting, the drug companies are all about making healthy people into customers.
Chain pharmacies must sell you something besides brand name drugs because the cost saving, insurance companies, want you to dispense prescriptions as a loss leader. That is why you do not see many small independent pharmacies any longer. Only large retail stores with the pharmacy way in the back.
Don;t get me wrong, I hate chain drug stores. The better example of their profit motive is that they all sell liquor and cigarettes. State board of pharmacies should ban this practice. That would bring back our small pharmacist owned apothecaries.
Pharmacist life was almost ruined by Lipitor
Salsa fights cholesterol and so does corn chips. They are rich in flavor together and a snack food.
Cream cheese spread on a celery stick is scrumptous and low-cal/low-cholesterol.
Peanut butter and honey tastes fattening, but actually isn't.
My numbers are very similar to yours. My doctor said my total cholesterol is higher than average, but because my "good" cholesterol is very high (like yours), it becomes less of a concern. If your good cholesterol is high, that is good.
They look very good to me. Your LDL is way below 200, which used to be the norm, and your HDL is high.
I know what your doctor could tell you except to keep doing what you are doing. If you feel brushed aside, try someone else, but I would see no reason to do that.
Dear! All I can say to you is BRAVO! It is hard to stay fit and healthy without family They are jealous that you have a wonderful mindset! Stay positive and ignore your negative comments. You can also ask your mom to take you to doctor. Your doctor will give you personally a lot of compliments for staying healthy and fit!! Am sending you a lot of positive
Hey check out foodnetwork.com they have great stuff for healthy recipies and very fun and tasty too.
There are lots of healthy recipes on
Since your Mom sounds like a real "fat food die hard" try out with casseroles made with Campbells Healthy choice cream of soups. That will cut out the fat and salt. Then you can ease her into more healthy things like sauces made from fat free sour cream, cream cheese or
Find ways to use balsamic vinegar or other flavored vinegars to pep up the foods with no salt or fat or sugar.
do it too quickly tho.
easy and ease them into more healthy foods. If it always tastes good, never know!!!!!!!!
Your Total Cholesterol should be BELOW 200 (but 264 all that bad)
LDL (the BAD cholesterol) should be UNDER 100 (the lower the better, but 105, again, still too bad!)
HDL (the GOOD cholesterol) should be AT LEAST 45 for Men and 55 for Women and you want this number to be as high as possible (64 is GOOD)
TRIGLYCERIDES are the UGLY fat and is the extra fat and sugar you burn off and this number should be less than 150.
When people talk about their BMI number, this is just a comparison of your weight to your height. For examble, someone who is and a large bone size (aka body frame) may be slightly different, but the numbers are as follows:
less than 18.5 underweight
18.5- 26 Normal
26- 30 Overweight
Over 30 Obese
You might check out the TOTALLY FREE website called FitDay.com. It is very helpful in providing some good information, and diariies and it has nothing to do with Vitamin Supplements, energy drinks or any potions' (just simple weight loss and old-fashioned exercise).
Well there are enzymes in Soya which can mimic Estrogen, which can sometimes not be so awesome if yer a dude. However, even if you are a man, a slight increase in an estrogen mimicker sure beats out dying as a result of LDL. Also Soya is great because it increases your HDL. Just stick with it, and use extra virgin olive oil in cooking and such. Hell there is nothing wrong with slightly sweetened soya milk either. diabetic as well, (but type 1 so sugar intake as big a problem because I just boost insulin dosage) and drink sweetened soya milk all the time. Look for the kind with Omega 6 & Omega 3 supplements too, that stuff is great for Cholestrol problems.
your family is overreacting about the exercise and might be jealous that you are getting healthier than them. people usually want to help others get up above them in life and would rather pull them down to where they are (after all, misery loves company). though, in there defense, you may want to eat just a tad more than that. go for 3 egg whites or one and a whole egg and swap the thai banana for another whole banana. also, the kix is just empty cabs, so i would say go for something healthier like oatmeal.
to answer your question we are all responsible of what we eat and business is business, therefore Pharmacies will sell things that are not so healthy as they use to sell cigarettes at one time at least here, If the population is gaining weight it will get sick and get medications for their problems at the same Pharmacy where previously they have spent their money on junk food, I call this a chain reaction effect one pulls the other. first we poison ourselves and then we ask for help by spending more money on medications…. it make sense.
yep, good ole marketing strategies of America. Like putting the milk at the back of the store and putting candy and toys near the check out lanes.
Soy is not bad for your health. You need not worry about it.
Naturopathic Doctor.
Only if genetically engineered soy! Then you should worry. most soy grown in the US is genetically engineered, unless organic. Only buy organic soy products. Fruits, veggies, and whole grains can lower cholesterol levels I think. Also, high fructose corn syrup causes diabetes.
I heard anything bad about soy foods. They are a great addition to a healthy diet. Just make sure ORGANIC, and be fine!
I am editing to say that I went to the link Freena Deed gave and I am absolutely shocked to read what Dr. Mercola said. I have GOT to do more research on always thought soy was a health food. Go to that link and search for soy and be shocked!
hmm i would love a right about now.. and yeah sometimes it can be that way.
Have you tried omega 3 capsules? My doc says they are good. Sadly, some people can exercise and eat perfectly but their cholesterol still remains high…
Chicken and pork recipes come to mind and at least fish once a week.
i would hit the food network page for ideas
PS. Love the avatar.
Yeah and also noticed this when people give reasons for disliking/liking different groups of people.
Ironically, they use stereotypes to justify why they like a group of people, yet use stereotypes to justify why they like another group of people.
to long
Why worry? Jeez…enjoy life!
